The Caddx Walksnail Avatar HD Goggles L (often called the "Goggles L" or "Large") are a flagship product in the rapidly evolving Digital FPV (First-Person View) market. They are not standard analog goggles; they are a high-performance receiver and display system designed to decode and display a pristine HD digital video feed from compatible Walksnail VTXs (Video Transmitters).

This system directly competes with DJI's FPV system and HDZero, offering pilots a compelling mix of high resolution, low latency, and features like onboard DVR and a modular faceplate/gimbal system.

Detailed Breakdown of the Caddx Walksnail Avatar HD Goggles L

  1. Key Specifications & Hardware
  • Display: Dual 1.6-inch LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) displays. These offer high resolution, excellent color reproduction, and high contrast ratios, resulting in a very sharp and vibrant image.
  • Resolution: Up to 1920×1080p (1080p) at 100fps. This is the maximum output resolution and frame rate, providing an incredibly smooth and detailed viewing experience.
  • Field of View (FoV): 50° (Diagonal). This is a point of differentiation. It's slightly smaller than some competitors, which some pilots prefer for a more focused, cinema-like experience, reducing the need to move their eyes around the screen.
  • Latency: As low as 22ms at 1080p/100fps mode. Low latency is critical for FPV, especially for high-speed racing and acrobatic flying. The latency varies depending on the resolution and frame rate setting chosen.
  • Receiver: Built-in diversity receiver with two MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) antennas. This advanced technology allows the goggles to receive multiple data streams simultaneously, significantly improving signal robustness, penetration, and range compared to traditional diversity.
  • Onboard DVR: Built-in Digital Video Recorder that saves the received video feed onto a microSD card. The recorded footage is in high-quality HD, making it perfect for capturing your flights without needing an action camera on the drone.
  • Focus Adjusters: Built-in diopter lenses (from -5 to +2) allow pilots with mild to moderate nearsightedness/farsightedness to use the goggles without their glasses.
  • IPD Adjustment: Physical knob to adjust the Inter-Pupillary Distance, aligning the screens with your eyes for a clear and comfortable view.
  • HDMI Input & Output: The HDMI Input allows you to use the goggles as an external monitor for other video sources (e.g., a gaming console). The HDMI Output can broadcast the goggle's view to an external screen for spectators.
  • Battery: Powered by an external 2-6S LiPo battery (standard FPV battery connector), offering flexibility and long run times.
  1. The Modular Faceplate System

This is one of the most innovative features of the Walksnail goggles. The front faceplate is removable and interchangeable. This allows you to choose the control interface (gimbal) that best suits your preference.

Crucial Note: You must purchase one of these gimbals separately or as a bundle. The Goggles L do not come with a gimbal pre-instated. The GM2 is the most common choice.

  1. Software & User Experience (UX)
  • User Interface (UI): The goggles run a custom operating system with an intuitive menu system. The GM2/GM3 gimbals make navigating this menu very smooth.
  • Video Modes: Pilots can choose between different resolutions and frame rates to prioritize quality or latency (e.g., 1080p/100fps, 720p/100fps, 720p/50fps).
  • Channel Management: The system automatically scans and lists all available Walksnail VTXs. You can easily lock onto a specific drone.
  • OSD (On-Screen Display): Displays critical telemetry data from your drone's flight controller (e.g., battery voltage, RSSI, current, flight mode) directly onto the HD video feed.
